Croatia Marina News - Berths Available

Given the popularity of Croatia as a sailing destination, it’s not surprising that most of the marinas are full and there’s a long waiting list for berths in some of the marinas. Prices have increased significantly over the past three years but are still reasonable when compared with other, arguably less desirable, Mediterranean destinations. With 1000 islands and islets along Croatia’s coastline, it’s little wonder that demand for berths is outstripping supply.

Croatia Online has a close working relationship with Marina Facility Solutions, (MFS), who know the Croatian Marina Industry inside out, after nearly four years of working with it. If anyone can find the ideal berth, MFS can, and have already helped a number of boat owners looking to relocate to Croatia who had failed to find a berth through the normal channels.

MFS have informed us of two specific marinas where there are still places available:

1.Close to Split airport - yachts over 20 metres

This marina is one of the very few in Croatia that can cater for larger yachts and has berths available on its superyacht pier, with all the facilities that superyachts would expect.

2. Two hours drive from Split Airport - yachts under 20 metres

This new marina, which will have the latest in marina security and facilities, is offering a very special deal to secure its founding berth holders. Either sign up for three years, and enjoy an 18% discount plus a rare opportunity to fix your costs three years ahead, or take on a berth for one year and get a further six months free if you book before 30th September 2006.

Croatia Travel News - Easyjet Flies To Split

Below is today's press announcement on Easyjet flights to Split - not the most convenient of times but at least some more low cost options.


Low-cost airline Easyjet has expanded its presence in Eastern Europe with the announcement of a new route from London Gatwick to Split in Croatia. Fares on the four-times weekly service start from £30.99 one-way and the new route, which started yesterday, brings the total destinations served by easyJet from Gatwick to 39.

Split is the second largest city in Croatia and offers a great deal in the way of adventure holidays, marine sports and history. It is also a good base from which to explore the Dalmatian coast as it is a regional hub and provides many connections to neighbouring locations.

EasyJet's marketing manager, Emma Curwood, said: "Croatia is a beautiful country and a fantastic addition to our extensive network from our Gatwick base. It's a destination with something for everyone, making it ideal for holidaymakers, city breakers and business passengers alike."

Whilst we're only novice bird watchers, we had one of our best day's out with Val Tours' resident bird watching expert in 2009. Croatia also has a lot to offer experienced bird watchers and this site will help them find it.

Croatia Holiday and Home has a great web site, with plenty of detailed information, to help you plan an independent villa holiday in Croatia or buy a Croatian Property.

The Croatian Language School is based in West London but organises regular immersion courses in Croatia. The website has a monthly newsletter on all things Croatian.

Croatia Online - Spring Clean 1

The Kiwi Tree in front of our terrace has grown from a bare stump to a leafy micro forest in the last four weeks and is nearly ready to provide a complete umbrella from the mid-day sun. That means that spring cleaning is a little overdue but it’s never too late!

Croatia Online is just a few months old but, with 60 postings already, the cobwebs are beginning to appear. The google blog spots are great for many things but pose some challenges in organising content. Content is what Croatia Online is all about and, from what we have seen on our site meter, we’ve been found from all over the world on some quite specific searches. We were also delighted to see last week that a Yahoo search on “Croatian marinas” put us second, probably due to our special feature on sailing and marinas. First was http://www.marinafacility.solutions.com/ who specialise in supplying equipment and services to Croatian marinas, ports and shipyards.

Our spring clean is really just a tidy up process focusing on feedback and what we have learnt in our formative months. You may have already noticed that, in our links section at the top right hand side of the page, we have a link called “Croatia Online – Index to Postings”. This links to a page where we summarise, in a few key words, the main content of each posting with an easy direct link direct to the specific posting, so you can find what you want quickly. The rest of our tidy up is as follows:

Our home page links will include a maximum of three external sites, picked for topical and relevant content, and updated on a weekly basis, as was initially conceived. The rest of the home page links will be internal aids to navigation around the site – index to postings, about the author, and an “ Other Links” link that will allow us to expand on and increase the number of relevant external links . Click on “Other Links” on the main page and get comprehensive details on sites that will help you in your quest for knowledge, information and entertainment on all things Anglo Croatian. Tomorrow’s posting will be devoted to the launch of the separate links page.

Postings Format

The mix of information on Croatian destinations, the tourism industry, lifestyle, business culture and news seems to have worked well and appears popular with readers. However, the recent regular bank holiday Mondays, and the occasional Croatia Online sabbatical or busman’s holiday, have meant that attaching a specific day to each main subject doesn’t always work. So we’ll be continuing with the rotation of subjects but not identifying them with a specific day of the week. This has the added advantage that if something topical springs up, which deserves a full airing, we can deal with it straight away, rather than waiting for the right day!
